It isn't exactly the summer veteran forward Patrick Marleau was hoping for.

With the Toronto Maple Leafs up against the salary cap, they placed the forward on the trade block. They spent weeks trying to accommodate the forward and send him to one of his preferred destinations however couldn't find a deal that made sense.

They eventually were forced to package a first round pick with Marleau and sent him to the Carolina Hurricanes who eventually bought him out.

Everybody presumed that the San Jose Sharks were going to sign him on a cheap one year deal, however that seems far from the case.

According to Steve Simmons of the Toronto Sun, the Sharks actually want nothing to do with him.

"After being traded by the Leafs and bought out by Carolina, Patrick Marleau figured he would go home and return to the San Jose Sharks. Well, that’s not happening. Sharks don’t want him. "

It's a real slap in the face to the forward who's looking to continue playing in the NHL.
