The Montreal Canadiens continue to be in need of some help on the left side of the defense and it seems they might have found a target.

According to Dennis Bernstein of The Fourth Period, the Canadiens have been scouting the Los Angeles Kings recently and could be looking at a specific player.

Bernstein points out how the Canadiens have been looking for a left side defenseman and Alec Martinez is likely on the block.

"Montreal’s Lorne Henning and Scott Mellanby were intriguing attendees. While Los Angeles’ eastern swing next week does include a stop in Montreal, the Habs’ continued search for a left side defence partner for Shea Weber may have drawn focus on Alec Martinez, the puck-moving, shot-blocking blueliner who has an comfortable $4 million cap hit for this season and next."

While Martinez is a righty, the 32 year old prefers playing on the left side.

Martinez is signed through the 2020-21 season at a cap hit of $4million per season, a contract the Canadiens could take on.

Do you think the 6'1 defenseman would be a good addition for the Canadiens?
