Due to some unfortunate events it looks like the Montreal Canadiens have a new found chunk of salary cap space.

Jonathan Drouin will likely retire or be traded this offseason while Shea Weber has played his final game in the NHL.

According to one NHL insider, the new found cap space will make them a player for one of the biggest offseason names.

Frank Seravalli reports with the new found cap space, the Canadiens are jumping into the mix for disgruntled Buffalo Sabres captain Jack Eichel.

Eichel is signed long term through the 2025-26 season with an AAV of $10million and that's Habs' now have the room to play around.

After years of losing, Eichel just wants to win and obviously adding a guy who scored 36 goals in 68 games during the 2019-20 season is exactly what the Habs' need.

Would you like to see the Habs add the young 24 year old center?
