From all accounts the Montreal Canadiens' defense is set for this upcoming season.

Victor Mete and Shea Weber should hold down the first pairing, newcomer Ben Chiarot and Jeff Petry on the second line, while the third pairing should feature some combination of Brett Kulak, Christian Folin and Mike Reilly.

Could there be space for an old friend?

According to Sport24 site in Russia, Markov's new agent, Sergei Isakov, has been in touch with Montreal.

“I personally spoke with the main scout of “Montreal” and strongly recommended paying attention to Andrei, at least out of respect for him.”

Tony Marinaro of TSN690 adds that reports indicate he's looking for a $2million contract.

Would you be willing to bring the 40 year old back even if it meant eating up a younger players ice time.

Keep in mind, Markov wasn't invited to play for Team Russia at the last Olympics because of concerns regarding his age and health and he registered just 14 points in 49 games last year in the KHL which only included two goals.
