Some very scary and disturbing news this morning out of Russia as we've learnt that former Montreal Canadiens' defenseman Alexei Emelin is basically fighting for his life right now in hospital.
Reporter Andrew Zanarnowski reveals that Emelin developed a fever after a KHL playoff game recently and had to be hospitalized.
Original concern was a possible COVID-19 infection but it seems he's gone into "toxic liver shock" after an allergic reaction.
Emelin was a fan favourite in Montreal for his big hits and enjoyed some time paired with Shea Weber on the top defensive pairing.
After spending a season with the Nashville Predators, Emelin returned to the KHL and joined Omsk Avangard where he currently plays with Ilya Kovalchuk.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Emelin and his family at this time.
Reports out of Russia are saying that Alexei Emelin is in a Moscow hospital in serious condition. He developed a fever after a KHL semifinal game. COVID-19 has been ruled out, and he’s now reportedly diagnosed with “toxic liver shock”, which is an allergic reaction to medication.
