The Montreal Canadiens made a bit of a surprising move on Monday morning as they placed goalie Keith Kinkaid on waivers.
As surprising as it was at first glance, after looking at his actual numbers it's not that surprising at all.
It would be pretty surprising if somebody claims the struggling Kinkaid on waivers.
Following practice on Monday, head coach Claude Julien explained the decision.
"Listen, I think it gives him the opportunity, if he passes through waivers, to have a chance to play more often in Laval and hopefully to get his game back in sync.
What we've seen from him is good, but maybe not good enough for this instant. We need a goaltender who-especially when we call on them infrequently-is making sure he's on top of his game.
We weren't in that situation recently where we could say he was playing big hockey for us. We're going to give him a chance to play more often and to see if he can rediscover this aspect of his game.
If that's the case, we'll see. Again, we have 24 hours to see if he's going to pass through waivers tomorrow afternoon. We'll see from there."
What do you think of Julien's explanation?
