The Carolina Hurricanes and their finances were a big subject of conversation earlier in the summer when the Montreal Canadiens signed Sebastian Aho to an offer sheet.

That offer sheet was quickly matched and Aho will remain in Carolina for at least the next year.

When new owner Tom Dundon fired former general manager Ron Francis, there was speculation it was because he didn't want to pay his GM big money.

Right now we're not even sure Dundon is paying his GM at all.

Current general manager Don Waddell is currently working without a contract and even interviewed with the Minnesota Wild this week for their vacant GM position.

He was asked about it by the local media in Carolina.

“Even if he had a contract I would let him interview, so what’s the difference?” Dundon said to the News Observer. “It’s not going to stop somebody from doing whatever’s better for them. If they’re going to pay somebody more money, I’m not going to stop them. I told him he’s got to do what’s best for him.”

"I’m not going to pay what other guys pay GMs, so me having a contract with a GM doesn’t really help me,” Dundon said
