Social media absolutely exploded yesterday when a report came out that pending free agent Erik Karlsson would like to receive a contract offer from the Montreal Canadiens.
It doesn't look like Karlsson will be signing an extension with the San Jose Sharks and according to the report, Karlsson wants to return to Canada and be closer to Ottawa as per his wife's request.
The report mentioned the Canadiens as well as the Ottawa Senators as the two main teams he'd like to receive an offer from.
There's some good news for the Canadiens regarding the situation according to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman.
Friedman says it's highly unlikely that Karlsson receives any kind of offer from the Senators.
The ending to the relationship left way too much of a sour taste in everybody's mouth and the divorce was just way too nasty.
Does that put the Canadiens as the front runners to land Karlsson?
Friedman says it is highly unlikely Erik Karlsson will return to Ottawa, it was such a tough divorce, can't see it happening.
