The Montreal Canadiens don't have many new in house contracts to hand out this year however that changes big time next year.
Tomas Tatar, Brendan Gallagher, Phillip Danault, Joel Armia, Jordan Weal, Jeff Petry, Jake Allen, Charlie Lindgren and Alex Belzile will all be UFA while Artturi Lehkonen, Jesperi Kotkaniemi, Ryan Poehling, Hayden Verbeek, Alexandre Alain, Michael Pezzetta, Laurent Dauphin, Lukas Vejdemo, Otto Leskinen, Cale Fleury and Gustav Olofsson will all be RFA.
That is quite the list.
Of course one of the players on that list is the heart and soul of the Canadiens and that is Brendan Gallagher.
The forward has given everything he's got for the Canadiens over the years and was on pace for his third 30 goal season in a row before the season was canceled because of COVID-19.
He'll be due for a pay bump on his current bargain $3.75million salary and while he revealed today that the Canadiens have had some soft contract talks with him, he needs one specific thing to happen first before he signs any contract.
Gallagher told the media on Monday that there's certain key pieces on the team right now who's future is in question with the team. Whether they'll be on the team or not going forward will play a huge role in whether he'll sign or not.
Who do you think Gallagher is talking about?
#Habs Brendan Gallagher says there are pieces currently on the team that he considers very important going forward and whether those players remain in Montreal would figure into the decision making about his own future with the #Canadiens.
