The Montreal Canadiens have some new found cap space and general manager Marc Bergevin will likely use it for some home runs like last year.
With Shea Weber, Phillip Danault and likely Jonathan Drouin all expected to be off the books this summer, it opens up some possibilities.
We heard yesterday from NHL insider Frank Seravalli who expects the Canadiens to throw their hat in the mix for Jack Eichel, however Eichel isn't a free agent and would take some key pieces headed back to Buffalo in a trade.
Fellow insider, Elliotte Friedman, believes Bergevin will look at the market instead.
Friedman mentions that the Canadiens will take a swing at soon to be UFA Gabriel Landeskog.
The Avs' captain isn't happy at all with the offers the Avs have put on the table and he's headed to market.
Landeskog is a big body winger who can put the puck in the net and would fit perfectly with the team's current blueprint.
Would you like to see the 28 year old in Montreal?
Friedman on 31TP says with the Weber news and also with Danault looking like he'll go to market it would not surprise him if Bergevin takes a big swing this offseason, mentions Landeskog and Eichel's name, says it wouldn't surprise him if the Habs took a run at them. #GoHabsGo
