The Calgary Flames have been a pretty big disappointment this year.

Calgary has lost four in a row and are 4-5-1 in their last 10 games.

To add to the problems the Flames have absolutely no cap space and their star player, Johnny Gaudreau is struggling too.

Gaudreau's body language hasn't been the best and he's only got five goals so far this season along with a 7.8% shooting percentage.

There's chatter that he could be on the block or want out of Calgary.

Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman tackled the subject in his latest 31 Thoughts column:

"I’d be astonished if Calgary traded Johnny Gaudreau at this time. For one thing, the Flames are aware that this historically 12.5 per cent shooter is at 7.8 in 2019–20. There is concern about how he’s playing, as Gaudreau’s confidence and puck wizardry in the offensive zone are missing. A huge part of their offence was Gaudreau getting in close, where Sean Monahan could bury it. That’s missing. But there’s no desire to make a rash move."

Gaudreau is signed through the 2021-22 season with a $6.75million cap hit per season and doesn't hold any trade protection.
