It was a bit of a surprise when the Montreal Canadiens announced that Jesperi Kotkaniemi was being loaned to Assat in Finland.

While it meant Kotkaniemi could keep momentum going and stay in shape for the upcoming season it presented injury risks.

Whatever the case may be, Kotkaniemi's time in Finland has come to an end.

According to Arpon Basu of The Athletic, Kotkaniemi's loan has come to an end because the Canadiens believe the season will start soon.

"I'm told the reason Jesperi Kotkaniemi's loan to Assat ended was in the unlikely event the NHL hits its stated goal of starting Jan. 1, he would need to come to Montreal next week to quarantine for camp. Preferred ramping up preparations for that hypothetical camp just in case."

There still hasn't been any official plan for the 2020-21 revealed however it sounds like there should be something soon.
