Absolutely huge news on Thursday morning as the Montreal Canadiens have made another trade, this one absolutely shocking!
The Montreal Canadiens traded Paul Byron, Cole Caufield and a first-round pick to the New Jersey Devils in return for star defenseman PK Subban.
Marc Bergevin has made some real blockbusters in recent years and he hits a real home run today by bringing Subban back to Montreal almost 5 years after his departure.
The Devils withhold 50% of PK Subban's salary and agree to take Paul Byron in order to accommodate the salary cap.
Subban has 3 goals and 12 assists for 15 points in 31 games this year in New Jersey and he had always expressed his desire to return to Montreal since the infamous trade involving Shea Weber in 2016.
Bergevin has been under pressure to land a puck moving defenseman over recent years and it looks like he's fixed one of his biggest problems.
The Habs GM will fall under criticism for moving top prospect Cole Caufield after signing him, but the Devils weren't willing to make the trade any other way.
