The Montreal Canadiens and general manager Marc Bergevin were really caught off guard by going forward Jesperi Kotkaniemi.

The young Habs forward decided to give the team a real slap in the face by signing an offer sheet with the Carolina Hurricanes.

A 1yr deal worth $6.1million put the Habs in a real pickle and even the Hurricanes to a certain extent.

It was originally believed to be a possible troll offer that the Canadiens would match but the 1st and 3rd round draft pick compensation and possibly being forced to qualify KK at $6.1million next year made it a decision that would take awhile to think about.

The Canadiens decided to use the full 7 days to reach their decision as Bergevin shopped his newly acquired draft capital around the league for a center.

After 7 days Bergevin decided to not match the offer.
