General manager Marc Bergevin surprised the hockey world this morning by firing head coach Claude Julien and after landing in Winnipeg this afternoon Bergevin met with the media.

Julien had been fired this morning before everybody got on the plane as Bergevin met with Julien and Kirk Muller privately.

After thinking about overnight, Bergevin revealed why he made the decision.

Bergevin said "I saw a team which was lost on the ice and which lacked a little direction".

The GM added that he wouldn't be interviewing anybody during the season and that Dominique Ducharme "was his guy without a doubt".

Bergevin cited Ducharme's qualities as a communicator and the breath of fresh air that the new coach will bring.

More details will follow.
