Huge news for the Montreal Canadiens and their fans on Wednesday.
The KHL season was officially canceled this morning which means that players are now allowed to jump overseas if they please.
That means that the one and only Alexander Romanov is now allowed to sign with the Canadiens.
Not only is he allowed, but he wants to.
NHL insider Pierre LeBrun reports that he's been informed by Romanov's agent, Dan Milstein, that is client might be ready to sign with the Canadiens for the rest of the season instead of waiting until the offseason.
If Romanov were to sign now that would lock him up for the 2020-21 season and the Canadien wouldn't have to worry about CSKA trying to keep him.
Was just reminded of the NHL memo that went out saying any new signing of contracts have to be for 2020-21 at the earliest. Can't sign any player for this season. Whether that changes over the next few months depending on whether there's a season or not, we'll see. https://t.co/a0L58Sxk5M
