The Montreal Canadiens decided to give Carey Price some rest as they got set to play the second of back to back games last night.
Backup goalie Antti Niemi got the start against the Florida Panthers and he looked absolutely incredible.
With his dominant performance against the Panthers, the 35 year old goalie set a new franchise record in the process.
Niemi's 52 saves are the most by a goalie during a regular season home game, three more than Jeff Hacket who made 49 against the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2000 and most recently Carey Price who made 49 saves against the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2015.
The performance was also the third most saves by any goalie in Canadiens history.
Stick tap for the Habs' backup goalie.
