The NHL is prepared to announce an expansion team by July at the latest, and the 30 current teams in the league will be forced to say good-bye to at least one of their players in that event.

There’s steam gaining behind an announcement of a Las Vegas franchise, and the hockey blog ‘The Hockey Writers’ tackled the prospect of seeing a player from each teaming leaving and heading to the Las Vegas [Insert Name Here]. The Hockey Writers chose David Desharnais as the No. 1 centre for the team, while they tabbed Mike Fisher as the centreman for the No. 2 spot.

However, that’s not the only potential loss the team could see. Elliotte Friedman reports that Scott Mellanby could leave the Habs front office to take a bigger role with the new team. The 49-year-old has been working with Marc Bergevin since 2012 as the director of player personnel for the team.
