The Canadiens have re-signed centre Tomas Plekanec to a two-year contract extension.
The deal will pay Plekanec $7 million next season and $5 million in 2017-18.
The 32-year-old forward has seen his name involved in trade rumours recently as a result of his impending free agency, but it seems the team put those to bed. The longest-tenured Canadien will remain with the team even longer, and he’ll do so as a consistent and valuable pivot down the middle.
Plekanec counts $5 million against the cap this season.
